One significant thing I considered when buying is the Hornady product availability on the shelves locally at Sportsmans, Bass Pro etc. Looking back I probably would be just as satisfied with a Dillon 650, but I'm certain the startup cost with Hornady is lower, and since everything can be acquired at local stores it makes for a convenient buy.

It is on a rotating plate that moves the primers around with each pull of the handle. The whole system is smoother and faster. The Casefeeder system is even different and you never have to worry about a case falling forward on its side as they sometimes do in the 550. I am just impressed at how this Dillon XL650 is designed and so user friendly.

Greetings! I am looking to purchase a progressive press in mid to late January, and am comparing the Hornady LnL AP to the Dillon XL650. Whichever I pick, eventually it will be outfitted with a case loader and a "Mr Bulletfeeder"; it will be putting out handgun ammo in batches of 2000+.

Go with the Dillon The Dillon is way better with the case feeder. It feeds so much smoother than the Hornady. It's just built better and runs smoother IMHO. There are only two areas the Hornady wins. 1) the powder hopper is more accurate and has less issues with spilling flake powder. 2) if you don't want a case feeder the Hornady is better.

AP uses a rotor measure where Dillon uses a bar, rotor makes a better measure, especially for long extruded powders. AP press is used for loading .223 and .308, nothing else. XL650 has tool head set to size and trim .223 brass, swaging done with 600 swager. Have tool heads set for 9mm, .38super comp and .45acp.

As opinions go... it has been said on another forum not to buy a XL650 as the first Dillon but buy a XL550 instead, because the XL650 is to complicated. I say bull hockey I can handle it. I will use this mainly for rifle and I'm concerned as to the OAL +- variations, and powder charge +-...

Excellent & efficient customer service. The slide bar system maintains the distance between the priming station and the stack of primers, making it safer. The older Dillon XL650 & XL750 has compatible tool head, conversion kit, and reloading dies. For easier lubrication, it has zerk fitting at the ram linkage pivots. Very detailed Owners Manual.
